Utdrag om Guayaquil:
Guayaquil has the highest crime rate in Ecuador, and visitors should exercise caution in all areas of the city. Recent reports indicate that criminals are becoming increasingly violent. According to security officials in Guayaquil, eight types of crime have grown appreciably: kidnapping for ransom, homicide, assault, home robbery, vehicle robbery and rape. Incidents of aggravated robbery and express kidnappings, however, have reportedly diminished.
* Travelers should avoid walking in the old colonial area of Las Penas due to rampant crime in the area.
* The Guayaquil Waterfront Promenade, known as "El Malecon," has an especially high crime rate.
* The vicinity of the U.S. Consulate in the downtown area has a high crime rate as well.
* The Parque del Centenario and the "Black Market" between Colon and Olmedo streets both are rife with pickpockets.
* Road banditry is a concern in Guayaquil's outlying areas, including the western route to nearby beaches, which is one of the most dangerous in Ecuador. Travelers should employ secure transportation when traveling in these areas.
* Travelers should exercise caution in the popular Urdesa restaurant district.
